The Castles
The closest castle to lawrenny is Carew castle. This is a interesting 12th century castle with views over the mill pond and you can also visit the restored 14th century french tidal mill.
Pembroke castle is one of the oldest castles in Wales and is built on the banks of the Pembroke river. There are lots of events and renactments at this castle, great for kids.
Manobier Castle is well worth a visit , it is quite a small castle but it is enclosed and safe for younger children to look around. There is also an excellent beach at Manobier with sand, rock pools and a cliff top walk.
The Beaches
The best beach in Wales is Barafundle beach (pictured above). This is an unspoilt sandy beach with sand dunes and rock pools and a wonderfull cliff top walk. There 's no road to the beach you park at the national parks carpark, where there is a shop and toilets. It is about a 1/2 mile walk to the beach so only take what you can carry. Dogs are allowed on this beach but should be kept on a lead for the walk and of course clean up any mess.
Manobier beach mentioned above with the castle. I think dogs are allowed on this beach all year round.
Saundersfoot beach has a long stretch of sand and you can walk to Wisemans bridge.
There is plenty of parking and lots of shops. Dogs are allowed on different parts of the beach depending on the time of year. They are always allowed on the beach to the right of the harbour. There is also a slipway at Saundersfoot but this is greatly effected by the tide.
Tenby beach has a long stretch of sandy beach and is popular with surfers and kite surfers.Parking can be a problem as Tenby gets very busy at peek times. Dogs are allowed on the beach to the right of the town.
